The One Who Was Chosen.

Somewhere between the stars and the softest clouds, there was a waiting room.
Not the boring kind with chairs and magazines—this one was buzzing with activity instead of a single blaring TV that played game shows, and lots of laughter and expectant giggles instead of clocks.
In this waiting room there was a line of Souls all waiting to be picked for their turn on Earth.
Some wanted castles.
Some dreamt of fame.
And then there was this one.
Small. Curious. Already full of questions, brave in spirit, strong in stature and of course adorable.
The leaders in charge were looking over a list of optional families when a woman’s voice could be heard over all:
“Oh no, no… not that one. Too chaotic.”
“Not that one either—lovely, but they need more patience.”
“Ah. There you are.” A woman with kind eyes and a knowing smile stepped forward toward one particular Soul.
“I’ve been saving the best family for you,” she said. “They work hard. They have an amazing dog and a hairy moody cat. They love deeply and consistently. And the mother… she’s been raising other people’s babies her whole life. I’d say it’s finally her turn."
The little Soul tilted their head questioning, “Will they love me?”
The woman laughed softly. “They’ve been loving you before they even knew you existed.”
“Will I be safe?”
“So safe you’ll never even question it.”
“Will I be bored?”
She smiled wider with a twinkle in her eye. “Oh honey… they’re loyal and adventurous you’re going to have the best stories.”
The little Soul thought for a moment, then grinned. “Okay. I wanna go with them.”
And just like that, the universe made a quiet adjustment.
A mother-to-be felt a love she couldn’t explain yet. A father-to-be got a nudge to stay steady and strong. A grandmother on Earth felt her heart expand for no clear reason. And a great-grandmother in heaven whispered: “Good choice, sweetheart. I’ll be watching.”

And So…
In August, a family will meet the one who was chosen. The first grandchild. The long-awaited Soul. A baby who comes with a little stardust and a lot of love.
I can hardly wait to meet Baby Canny. Congratulations to my daughter and her husband.. and me!
