My daughter, Emerald, has been a reader for as long as I can remember. The kind who disappears so completely into a story that you could call her name a dozen times and she wouldn’t hear you. As a kid she would disappear for hours in her bedroom only to come down all bleary eyed to snag some more goldfish crackers. It's most likely the only time she sits still! These days, it’s her husband who watches her vanish— her world somewhere between the covers of a book.

When she texted me, “Mom, you’ll love this book,” I knew she meant it.
Full disclosure: I listened while driving for work, letting the narrator’s voice carry me into another time and place. Historical fiction has always been my soft spot, and this one hit all the right notes. That's why I can recommend The Things We Leave Unfinished without even an ounce of doubt, just like Em did to me.
Past and present folded together in a way that felt seamless and heartbreaking. The wartime setting carried grit and uncertainty, and the love story—full of letters, longing, and the ache of what might never be finished—reminded me why I come back to historical fiction again and again. By the last chapter, I was gripping the steering wheel, blinking back tears. Tender. Messy. Beautiful. The kind of story that lingers. Emerald was right.. i did love it.
If you click through and pick up a book off Amazon, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only share books I’ve read (or listened to!) and truly love—and this one stole my heart... highly recommend!
Since I'm linking and sharing I thought I'd include three other titles.. just incase you need a new book to get lost in!

Okay, I haven't read this one.. but it's on my list to purchase, cuz when Brene' writes.. it's most definitely one to read!

The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell grabbed my heart from the first page—a story about a boy with red eyes, the challenges he faces, and the quiet, resilient way he learns to live fully and love deeply. Not a new book, but it's a winner.. and i still think about it!

The Lost Bookshop drew me in from the first page—a story about a woman, a hidden bookshop, and the quiet magic of stories that heal, connect, and remind us why we keep turning pages. It's more fantasy than historical fiction.. but super entertaining!
